Het bestuur van de Vrienden van Tibet wil langs deze weg, al de leden, vrienden en sympathisanten van harte bedanken voor de steun van het afgelopen jaar. We willen hen ook danken voor de vele ondersteunende gesprekken, de openhartige ontboezemingen, de warme schouderklopjes, de samenhorigheid door dik en dun, .....kortom, alles waar een Tibet Support Group nood aan heeft om het vele en soms moeilijke werk vol te houden. We danken ook de énorme vriendschap die we zowel van onze vrienden als ook van onze Tibetaanse broers en zussen mochten ontvangen. Door de jaren heen, én als gevolg van de intense samenwerking, zijn we ondertussen één hechte groep geworden die er samen voor gaat om Tibet onder de aandacht te brengen en te ijveren voor die vrijheid en autonomie waar Tibet en zijn bevolking recht op hebben.
2012 belooft een zéér boeiend jaar te worden. Een jaar waar weer vele mooie uitdagingen voor ons liggen. De Vrienden van Tibet hopen van ganser harte dat we ook in het nieuwe jaar op de volle steun en aandacht mogen rekenen. Het gaat jullie allen zéér goed!

Chinese communist party, ontkent dat er slachtoffers zijn gevallen, integendeel, CCp beweert dat de mensen zichzelf hebben geslaan. Een van de zeldzame keren dat het volk zelf in opstand komt, in de beelden is het duidelijk te zien, dat een vrouw door verscheidene politiemensen word geknuppeld Kashag Statement on the 10 th of Dec. 2011: Tibetan or English: Kashag statement TIB 10122011 Kashag Statement EN 10122011 VVT Persbericht 9 december 2011 Internationale dag van de Mensenrechten , een dag van Internationale “SCHANDE” De Vrienden van Tibet roepen op de Internationale dag van de Mensenrechten, de Internationale gemeenschap op tot een ernstige reflectie wat betreft het naleven van de verdragen rond het respecteren van Mensenrechten overal ter wereld. Eén van grootste “laarslappers” betreffende het respecteren van de Mensenrechten, is China! Nog steeds dé koploper wat de” uitvoering van de doodstraf” betreft. Als gevolg van de zware repressie tegenover de bevolking in de Tibetaanse Autonome Regio escaleerde de toestand en vonden er sinds maart 2011, 12 zelfverbrandingen plaats.(1) De Tibetaanse bevolking ontbreekt het aan religieuze vrijheid, vrije meningsuiting, geen vrijheid van samenkomst, is er beperkte en gecontroleerde toegang tot internet en mobiele berichtendiensten. De intimidatie op leken-en kloostergemeenschappen is vanwege de Chinese overheid enorm groot In en rondom de kloosters zijn intense veiligheids-en bewakingsmaatregelen van kracht. In de wijde omgeving van de kloosters werden veiligheidstroepen in “oproeruitrusting” geïnstalleerd. Al deze maatregelen hebben geleid tot nog meer intense spanningen tussen de Chinese autoriteiten en de Tibetaanse bevolking.(2) Als gevolg van al deze beperkingen hebben honderden monniken de kloosters verlaten, waarbij echter velen zijn gearresteerd of het slachtoffer geworden zijn van gedwongen verdwijning! De Vrienden van Tibet vinden elke vorm van gedwongen verdwijning “onaanvaardbaar “ en in complete contradictie met het Internationaal recht. Ook zijn de Vrienden van Tibet zwaar bezorgd over de voorgestelde herziening van de Chinese Wet om “ de strafvordering gedwongen verdwijningen” in het land te legaliseren! Volgens de Tibet Suppport Group mag géén enkele omstandigheid worden ingeroepen om een gedwongen verdwijning te rechtvaardigen. Verder moet volgens de Tibet Support Group, élke vorm van willekeurige arrestatie en detentie van monniken in het gebied van de provincie Sechuan onmiddellijk ophouden en dringt er zich nogmaals een interpellatie van de Internationale Gemeenschap op. Geen administratieve aangelegenheid voor de Vrienden van Tibet maar een onderzoek ter plekke waarbij een “Fact finding Commision “ naar de Tibetaanse regio sturen, een éérste daadwerkelijke stap zou moeten zijn. De Vrienden van Tibet betreuren het tevens ten zeerste dat ook tot op vandaag, op de dag van de Internationale Mensenrechten 2011, de winnaar van de Nobelprijs voor de Vrede 2010, met name de Heer Liu Xiaobo nog steeds in gevangenschap zit in de meest gruwelijke en mensonterende omstandigheden. Enkel en alleen om de kritiek te geven op de gang van zaken in de Chinese Volksrepubliek. The blackout happened seconds into a broadcast of the live BBC TV interview of the Kalon Tripa (political leader) of Tibet, Dr. Lobsang Sangay by presenter Mishal Husain for the show titled ‘Impact Asia.' Broadcast at prime time in Beijing, the viewers got to see a brief glimpse of Dr. Sangay during the introduction to the interview before their screens were blacked out. In the interview that was made unavailable for the Chinese citizens to hear, Dr. Sangay addressed issues like the transfer of power, the current situation in Tibet, the likelihood of the resolution of the Tibetan situation and much more. "It is a sad situation. 12 self immolations of which 6 have died shows how desperate people resort to desperate measures," said the Kalon Tripa addressing the current situation inside Tibet. "People are choosing death over life inside Tibet. This proves how repressive the policies of the Chinese government are," he lamented. In a wide array of questions fired by Ms. Husain, Dr. Sangay accused china of lacking moral power. "The way the Chinese government is treating Tibetans, it will never gain the respect of the international community," he said. "If it wants to become a super power, respect from the international community is what it needs most," he added. On being asked about the increased presence of good infrastructure in Tibet due to Chinese presence, Dr. Sangay stated that it isn't what is present that matters but what matters is the who it benefits. Quoting statistics he stated were from 2002, he said "70 % of private sector jobs are controlled by Chinese, 50 % government sector jobs are communist party jobs, which are again given to Chinese. 40% of Tibetan graduates are unemployed." He stressed that despite infrastructure provided, if studying barely benefits them, and Tibetans within Tibet are being left unemployed, there is no morale left to continue. When asked about how different his way of functioning will be from that of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Sangay quickly responded saying "I will be more forthright and active in speaking about the situation in Tibet. I will also be maintaining the basic principles of non violence and democracy as I do so." He stressed that even though being outright about the situation in Tibet might affect the dialogue with the Chinese government; he would prefer a dialogue based on reality and that he does not have any grudge against China. He maintained that the Tibetan leadership-in-exile is demanding genuine autonomy within the framework of the Chinese constitution and that they do not challenge the Chinese sovereignty or integrity. When contacted over the broadcast blackout incident that took place in China, Dr. Lobsang Sangay remarked that "This action is an indication of the fear that the Chinese authorities have about the truth of the Tibetan issue, truth that they are prepared to go to any length to hide from their own people." Kalon Tripa addresses the Benelux Tibet Support Groups & the Belgium Tibetan Community by:Kalon Tripa of Tibet, TPI The Tibet post International Brussels : On the first day of his three day visit to the European Capital of the Kalon Tripa since assuming office of the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay was joined by Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in exile Mr. Penpa Tsering, Kalon Dicki Chhoyang of the Department of Information & International Relations and Venerable Thupten Wangchen & Ms. Chungdak Koren, member of the Tibetan Parliament in exile representing Europe. The day began with a lunch hosted by the Tibetan Community in honour of the Kalon Tripa where all the ex-board members since the founding of the Tibetan Community in Belgium in 1995 were also present. In the after-noon, Kalon Tripa met with the representatives of the Benelux Tibet Support Groups and Belgium based Buddhist centers to express them his appreciation for their consistent support to the Tibetan cause and to inform them of the policy priority of his administration. He also briefed them on the recent crisis in Tibet and on the devolution of political authority by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the elected leadership this year whereby their support was now even more appreciated. Kalon Dicki Chhoyang la also took the opportunity to address the delegates present in her fluent French and thanked them for having chosen to support the Tibetan cause rather than any other cause and that it very much touched her. In the meantime, she reminded them of the importance of unifying their strengths and coordinating their actions in order to get the expected impact and visibility. She also stressed the importance of involving and working together with the Tibetan Community present in their regions. In the evening Kalon Tripa and Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament met with the Belgium Tibetan Community and representatives of the Netherlands Tibetan Community. Over 1000 Tibetans from across Belgium commuted to hotel Radisson in Antwerpen to listen to their democratically elected leaders. The event started with the singing of Tibetan National anthem followed by one minute silence in memory of the Tibetans who self-immolated recently. Speaker Penpa Tsering la spoke at length on the amendments made to the charter following the devolution of political authority by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the elected leadership, its consequences, implication of Chinese policies in Tibet and the recent wave of self-immolations in Tibet. Kalon Tripa, Dr. Lobsang Sangay informed the audience of his recent visit to the US and other European countries where the respective governments and Parliamentarians had shown strong sense of concern on the recent crisis in Tibet. His Holiness the Dalai Lama handed over the political authority to the elected leadership with a certain level of trust and we must strive hard and live up to the expectations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, said Kalon Tripa. Dr. Sangay further said, the present political leadership by him is the continuity of the legitimate political leadership of the Tibetan people and that he along with his cabinet is dedicated to work hard in preserving and taking forward the legacies of the older generation. Kalon Tripa also emphasized the importance of education of the younger Tibetans which is also the priority policy of his office. The day ended with a dinner hosted hosted by the Belgium Tibetan Community. Kalon Tripa arrived to Brussels on the 26th evening from Paris where he was received by Envoy Kelsang Gyaltsen, Ms. Rigzin Choedon, OOT, Brussels, President & Vice-President of the Tibetan Community and Represenatives of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Chushi Gangdruk and Chinese-Tibetan Friendship Society.
